PAYING THEIR OWN WAY – I praise God for parents who can afford to send their responsible kids to college. But, I’ve yet to find chapter and verse mandating parents pay for their child’s higher education. Parents struggling just to make ends meet might do well to prepare their kids, at an early age, with the concept of Junior working his own way through college. Then, when he graduates high school, he will be better prepared for the tough road ahead. Working his own way through college will also guarantee a lot less time for fraternity parties, video games, and other time-wasting activities.
When did a four year party on mom and dad’s tab become a right of passage? In addition to acquiring a whole lot of character, time management skills, and fiscal responsibility, he’ll have a much greater incentive to study hard and not waste his own hard earned money. And having no loans to pay off after graduation will put him a giant leap ahead of the competition.
