Going Through the Motions [One Minute Feature]

Devotions are an important way to deepen your relationship with God, and encourage your kids to develop their own relationship with Him. In today’s busy world, however, it’s becoming more difficult to really take time to study and reflect on God’s Word.

Going Through the Motions [One Minute Feature]

Despite our busy schedules, it’s important to always make time for devotions, even if you have to rush through it. But what if that’s not entirely true?

How to Keep Devotions From Becoming Ritualistic

Do you make God a priority in your life? Do your actions communicate the seriousness of God to your children? Making time for family devotions is a great way to not only encourage a relationship with God to your kids, but to also show them your own commitment to Him. Despite our best efforts, however, it can be very easy for these things to become legalistic religious rituals rather than true spiritual disciplines.

It’s easy to get caught up in simply reading a few verses, saying a prayer, and then going about your typical routine. In order to avoid falling into this sort of pattern, it’s important to genuinely pause and reflect on God and His Word. If life circumstances cause you to be pressed for time, it would be better to explain to your kids that because of pressing issues, there won’t be a devotion today. In this way, you are making time to truly invest in devotions, instead of just going through the motions.
