FINDING THE SACRED IN THE SECULAR – I’ll be the first to say that today’s parents have allowed their kids to be exposed to way too many harmful things–especially when it comes to entertainment. However, in light of the fact that all truth is God’s truth, we would do well to remember that all beauty is God’s beauty. The non-Christian can produce beautiful art, music, movies, and a myriad of other things. It’s so easy to separate the sacred from the secular when Christian parents might do better to help their kids find the sacred in the secular.
And where there is no beauty to be found there, find a way to take the sacred to the secular. The sacred is always beautiful. Just be careful not to jeopardize your child’s innocence in the process. It truly is a matter of balance and discernment–something that only a genuine commitment to Christ can offer–another reason why our biblical worldview needs to be cherished and cultivated.
