Parents have the responsibility of caring for the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of their children. Even when kids aren’t having any behavioral problems, juggling all of these responsibilities can be exhausting.
This is why parents need to remember that their own emotional and spiritual health is important too. Sometimes, parents need rest, recuperation, and encouragement to recharge their parenting batteries.
How Parents Can Help Support the Emotional and Spiritual Health of Other Parents
With all the fuss about what our changing culture is doing to the emotional and spiritual health of today’s kids, I think it is time we take a good hard look at what our culture is doing to today’s parents. The stress level for parents today is unlike any other time in our history.
It wasn’t supposed to be this tough. Like putting your oxygen mask on first—even before your child’s—in an airline emergency, we must first secure our own emotional and spiritual health. Are we getting enough rest and recreation? It may be smart to start spending a little time with other parents. Comparing notes and encouraging one another will help relieve some of the stress associated with today’s parenting odyssey.
