Family time in the word and prayer is important.
Be careful not to make it just another task!
Get in the Word
Do your kids see you take your God seriously? Carving out time for family devotions is a great way for your kids to know that God is preeminent in your life. But it’s very easy for these things to become legalistic religious exercises rather than regular spiritual disciplines.
It’s easy to rush through a few verses, pray for the missionaries, and then get on with the day or evening. I can’t stress the importance of genuinely pausing to reflect on God and his word in a manner that isn’t mechanical.
We’d be better off explaining to our kids that because of pressing issues there won’t be a devotion today or tonight. Then the time used for devotion will be invested and not spent.
