You can use the Bible as a blessing or a curse.

With your kids, the blessing is better.
A Savior from Punishment
There are many mistakes we can make to drive our kids away from God and His word. But one of the most toxic things we can do is use Scripture reading or writing as a punishment.
Perhaps you’ve heard a parent say, “because you didn’t get the garbage out on time, Junior, give me Proverbs 19:24 100 times.” When kids relate scripture to punishment appetites for God’s word likely diminish.
But what if we used scripture to avoid a consequence or punishment? Giving Junior the option to paraphrase some pertinent Bible passages in lieu of losing cellphone privileges makes scripture his savior rather than his executioner.
